Upton is our most Northerly node situated .at Upton. It's active on
only 2 freq's at the moment but it is hoped in the near future to add
to this and maybe if we can persued Roger who runs Upton to put an HF
gateway many will benefit from this action.
Upton is run and owned by a gentleman called Roger, many of his
friends call him the Rabbit, which comes from his first call sign of
G7RRB.. ie Roger Roger Bunny rabbit hi . He covers the northern most
part of the county and manages to serve the east quite well. He gets
alot of people using Wanda to access the DX cluster over at Howden to
the east of us in the form of DXYORK. Roger is now a class A license
holder having passed that most difficult of tortuous past times the
dreaded MORSE exam. Infact Roger took to the noble art of dits and
dars quite well. If you visit his abode you can see he is without
shame as you approach, because you can see from afar that his aerial
farm is not the prettiest thing you have laid your eyes on. Straight
away you feel that the thing he is using as an antennae should really
be used to dry the family clothes on. Yes you have guested it right
he has what is more commonly called a COBWEB hoisted aloft at about
30 feet from the ground. People have swore that when the wind is in a
certain direction the darn thing rotates at a fast rate of knots and
resembles more of air wolf than it does an HF ariel. He also has a
collection of beams and co-linear aloft which keeps him happy..
Roger bless him has also taken in a couple of waifes and stray's in
the form of a couple of Salukis just of late. These keep him occupied
albeit but I think by now they are used to the leisurely life of
curling up at the side of Roger's power supply to keep warm . His
actions on rescuing these poor souls I must say was quite commendable
on Roger's part. They do seem to be the most adorable of creatures.
Salukies have been in Roger's life for a number of years now and
infact he is a Champ show Judge in this breed. He has judged
extensivly in this country and overseas for many years. Anyway why
not try a visit at Roger's place on packet he is a very nice man
rearly. I seem to have heard that line before in some advert or
something, oh never mind.. give him a call and maybe a chat he is
open for chatting duties all day and night.. he never sleeps.. Just
ask him to tell you how to get down off a roof when you can't reach
the ladder de dar de dar de dar. That was the sound he could hear
coming from the other side of Wakefield.. It is a fascinating story
beleive me..
His packet address is M0ADQ@gb7wrg.#19.gbr.eu |
