Mikadene Alsatians

The Early Days

Welcome to the early days of the Mikadene Kennels. We started breeding and showing Alsatians about 20 years ago. I had always been a soft touch as far as dogs were concerned. My first encounter of brreding dogs was when i was eight years old and I decided that the family Jack Russel bitch was in need of having a family. My father didn't quite see it the same way as I did but he was very releived when the last of the puppies was given a new home. I never did quite get over the fact that we had to give all our beautiful new babies away.

I then spend many years with my second love Hounds, in the form of Whippets and Greyhounds. (The racing kind) I spent many a day at the racetrack all over the country racing my Whippets (I never did catch the blighters), under the kennel affix of Maria, Every one of my dogs names was called with the suffix of Maria. Black Maria was one, He broke many a track record some of which still stand today. I aslo had a couple of Gundogs in the form of Labradors. These I used mainly on the land when I was employed as a beater by the local gamekeeper. Those days still give me pleasure when I think of them.

Then came the German Shepherd Dogs, or Alsatians as I like to call them. My first encounter with this breed was a long coat bitch about 20 years ago. She was a very special young lady and would have given her life for me. Myself and my wife decided after a few years that it would be nice to be able to show our girl. I then found to my horror that long coated dogs are not to breed standard and couldn't be shown. I then started to learn as much as I could about this breed befor I bought another Alsatian to show.
